EF-1 tornado kills three in Central New York hamlet

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency in 32 counties following severe thunderstorms and forecasted extreme heat.

The National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado tore through Clark Mills with estimated winds of 105 miles per hour Sunday, killing three people.

The tornado, which was as wide as a football field, struck during severe storms that swept through the region. Six-year-old twin girls died when a tree fell on their home as they slept. A woman in a nearby home was also killed under similar circumstances.

The storms caused widespread power outages and flooding. Oneida City Schools are closed today as cleanup continues. The storms caused downed trees, power outages, and structural damage across Central New York, Southern Tier, and the Capital District.
