Continuing construction on Interstate 81 will lead to weekday slowdowns between Syracuse and Nedrow September 4 through early October

Drivers on Interstate 81 will see what transportation officials are calling rolling slowdowns for the next month, just south of downtown Syracuse.

The New York State Department of Transportation has estimated the delays could last 5 to 10 minutes in both the northbound and southbound lanes.

They will be concentrated between the South Salina-Brighton Ave exit and the Onondaga Nation-Nedrow exit. Drivers on I-481 Southbound could also see delays around the Brighton Ave offramp.

The work is part of the I-81 viaduct-Connective Corridor project.

The operations are planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. They are expected to take place from September 4 through early October.

Motorists should look for signs and flaggers and slow down.
The DOT also reminds motorists that traffic violations in work zones carry double fines. Drivers can also lose their license from convictions on two or more speeding violations in work zones.
