Residents of Syracuse’s valley neighborhood are getting a grocery store for the first time in seven years, and they have a chance to learn more about it next week. The Syracuse Division of public development will host a community engagement meeting at McKinley-Brighton Elementary.

The city's Economic Development Corporation received 1.7 million dollars from New York state's food access grant program to help support the project. A TOPS Friendly Market was in the plaza previously, but closed back in 2018.
Mayor Ben Walsh says the investment represents a step towards improving food access and supporting the local economy. The store planned in the Valley Plaza will create approximately 35 new jobs.
Mayor Walsh announced a public meeting for the Valley Plaza Grocery Store project, saying "the meeting is an opportunity to learn about the project, meet the project team, and provide feedback ahead of the new store opening next year." Learn more: https://t.co/cxEvqaYH2l pic.twitter.com/x9NRCl4Dd0
