New York State Police continue to investigate the explosion at the Abundant Life Fellowship church.

Authorities said a damaged propane fuel line caused the explosion at the Abundant Life Church in Boonville on February 17 that left five people critically injured. The New York State Police said in a press release the fuel line was damaged by a sagging roof from recent heavy snow falls. Fire Department Personnel were responding to a gas leak and had been trying to shut off power when the furnace activated and triggered the explosion. Police said the Fire Chief, two firefighters and the church pastor are all receiving hospital care at Upstate University Hospital.

  • David Pritchard Jr., Boonville Fire Chief, was listed as in fair condition as of February 18.
  • Brandon Pitts, Pastor of the church, is listed as in fair condition as of February 18.
  • Nicholas Amicucci, Boonville Fire Department, is listed in critical condition.
  • Richard Czajka, Boonville Fire Department, is listed in critical condition.

A third firefighter, Allan Austin, was taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica. The church is declared destroyed by authorities.
