High prices, housing issues, bank fraud and online privacy are among the top New York consumer complaints in 2025.
New York Attorney General Letitia James encourages consumers to report companies they believe have taken advantage of them or any fraud they may encounter.
“New Yorkers are already feeling the squeeze of higher prices, and scams, hidden fees, and deceptive practices can make daily life even harder to afford,” said Attorney General James. “My office will not tolerate companies that take advantage of New Yorkers, and I am committed to enforcing the law and returning money to consumers who are cheated.”
The Office of Attorney General said concerns about retail sales, from pricing to defective merchandise, were the number one topic of concern, with over 4,800 complaints received by the office. Number two involved the internet. Complaints ranged from online fraud to concerns about service and providers.
Other concerns that were in the top ten for the state were automobile fraud, landlord/tenant issues, and credit/banking.
Attorney General James said she urged New Yorkers who may have been victims of fraud to file a consumer complaint or call the hotline.
