A coalition of environmental groups is calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to stop undermining the state’s 2019 landmark climate law.
They gathered Friday in Syracuse to dispute a short memo from the Hochul administration that says implementing the law and its green energy initiatives would add thousands of dollars to New Yorker’s already high utility bills. In fact, they say the reverse is true. Relying more heavily on volatile fossil fuels will make the energy affordability crisis even worse. They point to soaring gasoline and natural gas prices as examples.
Parts of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act have already been delayed or weakened. State senator Rachel May and Assemblymember Al Stirpe promised to hold firm against additional efforts to abandon the law.
