A court procedure in September could pave the way for the redevelopment of Shoppingtown Mall

Now that a judge has ruled that Onondaga County can redevelop the former ShoppingTown Mall, the county will hold a community meeting to discuss its plans.

In an eminent domain case, a State Supreme Court Judge ruled on Monday that the county can take ownership of the former Macy’s store at the mall, despite the owners' unwillingness to sell. The ruling allows the county to sell the entire ShoppingTown Mall property to developers.

A public meeting is scheduled for Monday April 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at DeWitt Town Hall, hosted by County Executive Ryan McMahon and County Legislator Don Romeo, to discuss the property’s future.

Those interested in attending must RSVP on the county’s website.
