Earth Day is April 22 this year, just in time to summons help collecting all the trash that was hiding under the now melted snow. Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) has announced its next “Earth Day Litter Clean Up” event to help get ahead of the trash. Volunteers who sign up early can organize their crews to include co-workers and classmates and choose favorite locations across Onondaga County.
“More than 4,000 people were involved last year,” said OCRRA Spokesperson Tammy Palmer. “They picked-up more than120,000 pounds of litter. So, you really can make a difference getting involved this time of year and by picking up all that winter litter, you’re starting the spring fresh.”
Palmer also added that by starting early it makes clean up a little easier to maintain throughout the rest of the spring, summer, and fall. In some cases, she said the “Earth Day Litter Clean Up” inspires volunteers to form clean-up crews in their neighborhoods and remain active throughout the year. The event is on April 24thand 25th. The deadline to register is April 14th.
