On the first day of the NCAA transfer window, new Syracuse men's basketball head coach Gerry McNamara has his first transfer portal addition.
Guard Gavin Doty, a Fulton, New York native who played for McNamara at Siena the last two seasons, announced his transfer to Syracuse on social media Tuesday.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18 points and nearly seven rebounds per game for Siena as a sophomore last season, leading the Saints to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title and a near-upset of top-seeded Duke in the NCAA Tournament.
He was named a unanimous first-team All-MAAC selection. In his first season, he was selected to the league's all-rookie team.
Doty's transfer to Syracuse was widely expected when McNamara took the SU job on March 24. Doty grew up barely half an hour from the JMA Wireless Dome.
"I want to play for G-Mac through my whole career," he said after the Saints were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.
Doty joins Mark Morano Mahmutovič — the 6-foot-7 Slovenian 19-year-old who committed to SU on Monday — on the list of players committed to play for Syracuse in 2026-27.
"He’s one of the most unique players I’ve ever been around," McNamara said of Doty in March. "Probably the most unique player I’ve ever coached. He’s the type of person you hope one day that your child, your daughter, when they find a partner, that’s the type of person you hope they find."
