A proposed NY bill would streamline accessible license plate applications for veterans

A handicapped parking space awaits the next driver on the Syracuse University campus.

The lengthy process for New York’s disabled veterans to get accessibility license plates might become a little easier.

A new bill by Senator Chris Ryan of Syracuse would streamline the application process by instructing the DMV to recognize disabled status by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Right now, a veteran’s federal status is ignored when registering a vehicle.

If the governor signs the bill, veterans will automatically get accessibility plates, and healthcare providers won’t have to recertify a patient’s paperwork.
