The price of gas is back on the rise in the Syracuse area. Drivers are paying on average about $4.14-a-gallon, up a couple of cents from a week ago.
GasBuddy analysts say international events are affecting costs, with new hostilities in Iran, and Ukraine striking oil targets in Russia. Gas Buddy's Patrick DeHaan noted the US made an oil deal with Venezuela this week, "though in reality, any benefits from increased Venezuelan output will take years to fully materialize and are unlikely to move the needle in the near term."
The price at the pump is just over a dollar more per gallon than a year ago ($3.12 in Syracuse, August 31, 2025). Despite the difference, AAA expects Labor Day travel to be strong as people take advantage of the last holiday weekend of the summer season.
