Onondaga County Residents began their day early this morning honoring the victims and first responders in observance of the 12th Anniversary of Nine Eleven. At least 200 people stood in silence for 17 minutes beginning at 8:46 AM at Foreman Park in Syracuse to honor them.
We asked Steve Tiss later-on what he was thinking as he looked at the encased flag. It lists the names of first responders who died.
“It just brings tears to my eyes.”
Tiss is a Retired Fire Chief from Onondaga Hill. So, the “Flag of Heroes” on display took on a very personal meaning to him.
“Heroes is not even the word to describe what they are. It should have never happened. You lost a lot of great people. They are just phenomenal, great people. Heroes is a good word but there’s probably better words to describe it.”
Another gathering that’s expected to draw more people will be held tonight in DeWitt at the 9/11 Monument. The hour-long service outside of Dewitt Town Hall on Butternut Drive begins at 5:30.
