Central New Yorkers who have invested in solar may see changes in their electric bills.

National Grid will no longer pay for excess electricity generated by Phase One Net Energy Metered (NEM) customers, who include some residential and small commercial customers with solar panels installed after March 9, 2017.

Instead, any extra energy produced will now carry over on bills each month and year. This change follows the New York Public Service Commission's rules and will appear on bills within the next one to two billing cycles.
