Oneida County property owners won’t see a tax increase if County Executive Anthony Picente’s budget proposal is adopted.
The $550 million plan relies on a six-percent rise in sales taxes. County departments such as human services, public safety, and public works would receive smaller budget increases than requested.

Picente said costs from the July tornado in Rome forced the county to dip into rainy-day funds to avoid a tax increase for the 12th consecutive year. He prioritized maintaining the zero-percent tax increase rather than rebuilding reserves.
The County Legislature will vote on the budget on Nov. 13.
