Court ruling allows New York to enforce gun bans in 'Sensitive Areas'

Local schools, hospitals, public transportation and other areas where people gather can continue to ban firearms after a federal appeals court ruling.

The court decision refers to a New York State law that allows for gun bans in so-called ‘sensitive areas’ … which can now remain in effect. The ban goes back to a 2022 law that was challenged in court.

Another ruling earlier this month struck down a portion of the law that would limit concealed carry of a firearm on all private property.

New York lawmakers passed the measure after a gunman killed 10 people at a Tops Grocery Store in Buffalo, in an attack that was deemed racially motivated.
