Onondaga County prepares for record voter turnout

A record 320,000 Onondaga County residents are eligible to vote this year, and tens of thousands of them might be casting their ballots for the first time since the last presidential election.

That makes them potentially vulnerable to the flood of misinformation on the airwaves, social media, and even on campaign websites. Democratic Elections commissioner Dustin Czarny says to do your homework before voting early or on election day.

“They voted by mail in the pandemic, so maybe eight years since they voted in person and those polling places can change over that time. They need to go to their trusted sources to get information. Don't Google. Go to our website. We've done a lot of work to make that website very accurate and engageable.”

Czarny says voters can find early voting hours and locations, as well as election day polling places. So far, over 46,000 people have cast their ballots in the first five days of early voting.

Early voting continues through Sunday at ten locations. More information is at onvote.net.
