The lowered national gas price this year comes as a relief from last year’s ultimate highs in pricing.

Gas prices could dip below $3 per gallon nationwide in the coming weeks, according to AAA. As of Monday, the national average was $3.10 per gallon, down three cents from last week and .32 cents less than a year ago.

In New York, the statewide average stands at $3.18 per gallon, a two-cent decrease from last week. Prices in Central and Western New York regions include Syracuse at $3.21, Ithaca at $3.38, and Watertown at $3.15.

AAA reports seasonal declines and low oil prices at around $70 per barrel are helping reduce prices.
