U.S. Representative Claudia Tenney is co-sponsoring a bill to prohibit federal funding for NPR and PBS, citing what she calls partisan bias.

The proposed Defund Government Sponsored Propaganda Act claims taxpayer-funded media outlets prioritize advocacy over accuracy. In the past, Tenney has focused funding cuts on national networks rather than local stations, but it’s unclear if that remains her intent.

The Central New York Republican is co-sponsoring the bill with Utah Senator Mike Lee. “Americans have hundreds of sources of news and commentary, and they don’t need politically biased, taxpayer-funded media choosing what they should see and hear." said Senator Lee. "PBS and NPR are free to compete in the marketplace of ideas using donations, but their public subsidy should end."
