A new report finds that New York residents pay significantly more for outpatient medical care at hospital facilities than at doctor’s offices.

The Brown University School of Public Health analyzed 2022 insurance claims and found that outpatient hospital visits cost an average of $452 per patient, compared to $108 at a doctor’s office.

The Greater New York Hospital Association told the Albany Times Union that facility fees help cover funding shortfalls from Medicaid and Medicare.

State lawmakers are considering legislation to reduce these hospital costs.
