Legal Services of Central New York says the woman endured deplorable living conditions, including roach infestations and prolonged periods without heat or hot water.

A Utica tenant was awarded $55,264 after enduring roach infestations and extended periods without heat or hot water.

Legal Services of Central New York says $10,000 of the award was due to the landlord’s retaliation, which included threats and malicious actions against the tenant.

The case was made possible by the Tenant Dignity and Safe Housing Act of 2022, which allows tenants to seek repairs, financial compensation, and hold landlords accountable for unsafe conditions.
