1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East represents over 400,000 nurses and caregivers throughout Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Florida.

Some 2,400 hundred unionized employees of Crouse Hospital should soon have a new contract proposal to consider. 1199SEIU says contract negotiations are starting tomorrow for a new contract to take over after the current one ends April 30th.

Union officials say they’re focusing on a comprehensive package of wages and benefits that will both help retain employees and recruit new ones. Bargaining is also expected to address staffing levels.

Crouse recently listed more than 75 openings in various fields. SEIU last week urged the state to address what it called a staffing crisis in health care, saying understaffing is a main cause of turnover that only exacerbates shortages.
