Central and Upstate New York have a new chief federal law enforcement officer. The US Attorney General appointed John Sarcone III as the US attorney for the Northern District of New York. He succeeds Carla Freedman, who served under the Biden Administration and resigned last month.
Sarcone takes over an office with 49 assistant US Attorneys, and dozens of support staff. He grew up in the rural lower Hudson Valley, founded a general practice law firm, and served in both the public and private sectors.
Sarcone starts March 17th and will be based in Albany.
