The Syracuse Hancock International Airport sign greets flyers as they enter and leave.

It’s getting harder to find a buck these days… especially at Syracuse Regional Airport. Although, it’s by design, because the airport wants to go paperless.

The trend began with airlines banning cash at their ticket counters. In April, several restaurants at the airport will no longer take cash, and on May first, neither will the parking attendants or their machines.

Electronic payments are reportedly for efficiency and security’s sake. The airport authority says cash transactions, on average, take four times longer than credit at the parking gates, which often backs-up traffic during busy travel seasons.

Visitors are encouraged to use their credit cards, Q-R codes, or mobile apps to pay instead. To learn what businesses still accept cash, visit the Syracuse airport dining guide online.
