The state attorney general’s office is investigating the death of a man in Oswego County who was shot after an altercation with police.

State troopers and county sheriff’s deputies were called for a welfare check March 21 in Constantia when Miles Dignean reportedly struck a trooper in the head with a metal object.

The deputy fired his weapon, striking Dignean. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. State law requires the AG’s Office to investigate all civilian deaths involving police officers.
