Exit 24A on I-81 to remain closed indefinitely

An Interstate 81 exit that has been closed for over a year will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The New York State Department of Transportation announced Exit 24-A will remain closed after being shut down in the summer of 2023 due to concerns of trucks hitting the low Onondaga Lake Parkway bridge.

The DOT says the closure has helped reduce illegal truck entrances, reducing the number of trucks hitting the bridge. The DOT is currently looking into other options to reopen the connection between Interstate 81 and the Onondaga Lake Parkway, including eventually reopening the exit.
