State Police target distracted driving with week-long enforcement

The New York State Police are increasing patrols and checkpoints in an effort to crackdown on distracted driving.

For the next week, troopers in both marked and unmarked vehicles are looking for drivers who use their phones as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

More than 4,000 tickets for distracted driving were issued in New York during Operation Hang-Up last year.
