Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and fellow ranking committee members are demanding clarity from the Social Security Administration on their plans to fire half of the staff that runs the SSA website.

In a letter to the commissioner, Gillibrand says downsizing and on-going issues with the website may prevent people from receiving their Social Security payments. She says the cuts put people’s sensitive information at risk to hackers and foreign agents.

The letter demands the SSA to ensure that no important technical knowledge of the systems is lost through the cuts.
