Syracuse Hancock Airport kept runways open nearly all winter and won a top award for snow and ice control.

Syracuse’s 115 inches of snow this winter was apparently no match for the crews deicing planes and clearing runways at Syracuse’s Hancock Airport.

The Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives recognized the airport authority with the Balchen/Post Award for Outstanding Achievement in Airport Snow and Ice Control for the Small Commercial Airport category.

The award for outstanding performance comes despite the harsh and sustained winter conditions which closed the airport for less than three hours.
