Gas prices in Central New York remain below the state average as national costs rise with the summer travel season.

Gas prices in Central New York have edged up slightly, with the average price in Syracuse holding steady at $3.06 per gallon, according to AAA. That’s four cents below the New York State average.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gas has risen to $3.15, up four cents from last week. The increase comes as more than 39.4 million Americans are expected to travel over the Memorial Day weekend, marking the unofficial start of the summer driving season.

Despite the recent uptick, gas prices remain about 40 cents lower than they were at this time last year, offering some relief to holiday travelers.
