Onondaga County has received a key waiver from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, allowing most low-income families to maintain their childcare assistance.
The county had temporarily paused new applications for the program due to a funding deficit. But the waiver means 95% of currently enrolled families will continue to receive help. Of the 63 families on a waitlist for re-certification, 60 will now be allowed to continue in the program.
County officials say they are working with the state to secure more stable, long-term funding to prevent future disruptions.
