All New York public schools are required to have a cardiac emergency response plan.

The new law was created to make sure schools are ready to help a student who has a cardiac event in school or during extracurricular activities.

It was signed at Buffalo Bills training camp. Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin, who survived a cardiac arrest during a game in 2023, was there for the signing.
