The Trump administration’s attempt to remove a scientific finding regarding climate change is facing some strong opposition. The proposal rescinds a 2009 declaration that determined carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner says the move is eroding a decade of progress on clean air and ignoring science. Amanda Lefton adds that it threatens public health and puts New Yorkers at risk.

Trump-appointed EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin supported the proposal. Environmental groups said they planned to challenge the rule change in court.
