Gas prices in Syracuse tick up after summer decline

Analysts point to storm damage at refineries as prices rise ahead of Labor Day travel.

The downward trend in gas costs Syracuse motorists enjoyed all summer might be turning around. The price at the pump rose about two cents a gallon last week in reports from AAA and GasBuddy. The average of around $3.08 is the first rise in weeks.

Analysts blame severe storms in states with oil refineries. The trend is expected to continue as travel increases by Labor Day weekend.

The Syracuse average sits 35 cents lower than a year ago and remains lower than both the state and national averages.
