As summer school courses return students back to the classrooms, so does it return traffic cameras to the school-zones.

Beginning Monday, July 6 until August 24, the City of Syracuse will enforce traffic cameras from 7am-6pm wherever kids walk, bike, or get dropped off for summer school classes.

Since the cameras were installed last year in November, records show the number of motor violations in school zones has dropped by more than 50%. City enforcement has estimated that prior to the cameras, more than 12 speeders raced through school zones. Today, that average is closer to 575 speeders, some of those recorded were at speeds over 70 miles per hour.
