State Supreme Court judge signs order to enforce Skyline security requirements

Geoffrey Goose/WAER News
Skyline has been the scene of a murder and other crimes.

A state supreme court judge has signed an order enforcing security requirements imposed by the city of Syracuse at Skyline Apartments. The city made an expedited request on May 10. The judge had issued a temporary order based on a stipulation between the city and the owner Green National.

In a release, Mayor Ben Walsh says they now have the weight of the court behind them to ensure compliance with the agreement.

"The urgent action we took is helping to achieve our goal of ensuring Skyline residents have a safe place to live,” he said.

It mandates that Green National have two New York State certified security officers on the premises at all times, in addition to the off-duty Syracuse Police Department detail that’s already in place.

The company must also complete the installation of surveillance cameras in the stairwells by august first, and hold quarterly tenant meetings. In the stipulation, Green National confirmed is has plans to sell the 365-unit complex, and that any new owner will have to comply with the security requirements.
