Voters in the town of Manlius resoundingly rejected a measure that would have changed the way town board members are elected. According to a release from the Town of Manlius, the final tally was 890 votes for, and more than 2,100 against creating a set of wards, where a councilor would be elected from each area.

Instead, the current system will stay in place, where all councilors serve at-large, representing the whole town. Backers of the measure said it would have given better representation to residents in different parts of the large town. But opponents criticized the measure for being a GOP tactic to win back seats after voters elected all democrats for the six council positions in recent elections.

Town residents stood in line for well over an hour to vote in the special weekend election.
