The Syracuse Poster Project is about to wrap up its latest call for entries that meld poetry with visual art to capture some aspect of the Salt City. The project is run by a non-profit organization that brings together artists of all styles to commemorate Central New York, putting it on display for the public. The Poster Project’s theme this year celebrates the “Famous Faces of Syracuse.”

Co-founder and Poster Project coordinator Jim Emmons chose the theme to represent people that have made Syracuse their home and have done something special since living here. He notes that the Poster Project sends Central New Yorkers a specific idea.

“It sends a message to the larger community about Syracuse being a diverse, creative, and entrepreneurial city,” said Emmons.

Ellen Agnew has been a longtime contributor for the poster project, submitting poems every year. She enjoys participating for the connections she makes with the other artists.

“(it) brings together two different arts, which I think is a quite interesting thing to do. … a lot of times people are isolated. If you’re a painter or printmaker, you’re labeled that, and you aren’t brought together with people who are doing another form of art,” said Agnew.

Sales and Marketing officer of the Poster Project, Scott Herrman, believes that the impact the venture makes on people is important. He thinks the it helps make a difference in people’s time spent in Syracuse.

“This is a very easy, very obvious, very simple way to be reminded of your time in Syracuse. You’ve got this creativity on a postcard that could be had for very little money and is your forever,” said Herrman

The deadline for the 22nd version of the Syracuse Poster Project for artist submissions is November 21st. For more information, go to their website posterproject.org.
