Residents and leaders in the city of Rome are trying to come to terms with the extensive damage caused by a tornado that tore through the downtown area yesterday afternoon. Homes and historic buildings were destroyed, and trees and powerlines were torn down. Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for all of Upstate, and paid a visit to Rome earlier Wednesday. WAER’s Scott Willis caught up with long-time state senator Joe Griffo of Rome, who also served as mayor from 1992 through 2003. Click the audio link above to hear the interview.
