Tomorrow is the first day of in-person early voting in Onondaga County. It’s also the last day to register to vote, and to apply for an absentee or vote-by mail ballot. Democratic Elections Commissioner Dustin Czarny calls it a one stop shop.
“All those things coming on the same day has created this thing called Golden Day where if you are not registered to vote, you can go to an early voting site, use an affidavit ballot to register and vote on the same day. Your vote will count.”
GOP elections commissioner Michele Sardo says the system is designed to weed out any duplicate votes. Well over 15,000 people have already voted by mail, with another 16,000 ballots yet to be returned.
“If you filled out an absentee or an early mail ballot, it will be at the polls and it will say that when you try to check in," Sardo said. "You will not be allowed to vote on the machine. You will have to do an affidavit ballot.”
Early voting hours are 9 to 5 Saturday at ten locations. More information about hours and locations can be found here.
