U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) cosponsors legislation ensuring veterans receive health coverage for treating cancers related to toxic burn pits.

Despite a federal judge ruling against the Trump administration’s freeze on federal funding cuts, agencies are still struggling to access the money, according to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Speaking at a virtual press conference Thursday, she warned that funding for veterans’ healthcare, social programs, and local services remains stalled. “So, despite a court order saying you cannot block NIH funding or USAID funding or Department of Education funding, we are hearing across all groups that the funding is still frozen.”

Gillibrand also said the delays are preventing contractors from getting paid and disrupting essential programs nationwide. “The work’s not getting done, and if you don't have the funding to pay the contractor that’s helping deliver healthcare or helping to support our special needs kids, the services and the good that that money's doing is not going to be able to be spent.”

She is calling for immediate action to unfreeze the funds and allow agencies to resume operations.
