While some worry that the Trump administration could strip funding from Central New York’s Micron project, the County Executive says the project continues to move forward. A report from Bloomberg says Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is considering scrapping subsidies promised from the CHIPS ACT as he pushes those who are getting rewards to pitch in more of their own money.

This is while President Trump has asked congress to get rid of the CHIPS ACT. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon attributes a lot of those comments to political rhetoric.

“I talk to Micron all the time.  Our teams are talking with Commerce all the time…I’ve had high level conversations with members of the Trump administration and will continue to have high level conversations.  Our goal is we’re going to create a Central New York semiconductor cluster and we are full steam ahead,” McMahon said.

McMahon says he’ll fight efforts to stall the project if it comes up, but for now he’s more concerned about mostly environmental regulations the company is required to meet before it can move forward.
