A shabby, brick building stands alone on a neighborhood corner. An orange sign on the building says, "Market."

The City of Syracuse calls the Market convenience store in the Outer Comstock neighborhood a nuisance that's selling illegal weed.

The City of Syracuse is exploring a number of ways to close down a nuisance convenience store in the Outer Comstock neighborhood.

The market on East Colvin Street operates under a special use permit, which the city is seeking to revoke. If successful, the store would be forced to close. Deputy code enforcement commissioner Jake Dishaw told common councilors the state has already cited the store for illegal cannabis sales.

“We revoked their tobacco license. They continue to sell tobacco. County health has caught them selling illegal vapes,” he said. “This is adjacent to a city park close to Syracuse Latin School and right across street from Syracuse University neighborhood and other buildings.”

Councilors said neighboring residents have complained about illegal parking on adjacent streets, as well as litter at nearby Comfort Tyler Park. The city will hold a public hearing on August 27.
