New York State plans to address low water flows in the Salmon River by delaying some fly fishing and modifying water releases.

The Department of Environmental Conservation reports below average rainfall is the culprit. Teh agency plans to take action to ensure successful egg collection at the Salmon River Fish Hatchery.

Fly fishing on the popular lower part of the river will be delayed until enough eggs are collected at the Hatchery. The DEC estimated the fishing restriction could last into late October.

Water levels will be maintained to accommodate spawning.
