Syracuse residents have a chance to learn more about the city’s deer management plan at a meeting Monday. City leaders will share the results of last year’s removal efforts, and preview the upcoming season. Between January and March of 2025, 137 deer were culled from city neighborhoods, which provided enough venison for more than 12,000 meals for the hungry.
The overpopulation of deer in the city has led to increased risk of Lyme Disease from ticks, deer-car accidents, and damage to gardens and parks. The city is seeking residents interested in submitting monthly reports about the deer on their property. Monday’s meeting begins at 11 a.m. in council chambers at city hall.
