The Central New York Regional Transportation Authority – better known as Centro – is receiving more than $17 million from New York State to help transition to a zero-emissions bus fleet in Oneida County and beyond.

The funding comes through the state’s Zero-Emission Transit Transition Program, part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality statewide.

Centro plans to use the money to consolidate operations in Oneida County and purchase new battery-electric or hydrogen-electric buses, with potential expansion into Madison and Herkimer Counties.

The award is part of nearly $80 million distributed to seven transit providers across New York to support clean energy and sustainable transportation.
