The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry ranks among the top colleges in the nation for sustainability, according to the 2025 Sustainable Campus Index. ESF received the 6th-best overall score among doctoral-granting institutions.
The Index measured 13 sustainability impact areas, and SUNY ESF was a top performer in 5 of those categories. Those areas are: curriculum, investment and finance, public engagement, research and composite score.
“Our faculty, students, and staff lead by example through research, community service, and stewardship, and these rankings reflect that dedication,” ESF President Joanie Mahoney said.
The university was ranked on the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System, and is one of only nine institutions to be rated with the platinum distinction, the highest possible on the scale.
