As the temperature drops, the city of Syracuse is juggling the both leaves falling late and the prospects of snow falling just around the corner. The Department of Public Works is focused on leaf pickup in the absence of snow. Crews are scheduled round the clock, so don’t be surprised if you hear vehicle's beeping and scraping away during the overnight hours.

“We know the noise from overnight collection might be disruptive…our goal is to clear leaves as efficiently as possible before they cause localized flooding,” said Commissioner of Public Works Jeremy Robinson.

Robinson asked everyone to put leaves in paper bags and to place the bags between the street and sidewalk away from other waste. You can also drop the bags off at the city’s yard waste disposal site on Canal Street which is open from 7am to 3pm Monday through Friday.
