Drivers with outstanding Syracuse parking tickets have another month to resolve them without paying late fees. Common councilors approved extending the amnesty period through January 2. There are about 140,000 unresolved tickets going back to 1997, but City commissioner of Finance Mike Cannizzaro said response to the program has been lackluster.

“We've had about 1,000 tickets resolved, which based on our last amnesty is not necessarily the volume we were looking for," he said. "So [we're] really just looking to give people the opportunity to hopefully address some of their outstanding parking tickets for another month.”

During the 2020 amnesty, the city cleared 34,000 tickets and collected just under $1million. Under the program, drivers only pay the original fine, cancelling late fees and penalties that could add hundreds of dollars.

Original fines range from $40 to $100 depending on the violation and begin to accrue penalties after 20 days. People can look up their tickets and pay via the online portal.
