Buzz from fans of Syracuse University Men’s Basketball continues this week after new head coach Gerry McNamara received an official welcome to campus. Two SU students from McNamara’s hometown are particularly psyched. One student says he was hoping G-Mac would return by the end of his college career. He showed up earlier than expected.

“This is a huge deal for us! Gerry McNamara is the hometown hero, the pride of Scranton, Pennsylvania,” said Anthony DeLuca. "I mean, I think this was 100% the right move for SU Basketball and we have all the trust and faith in the world and Gerry’s going to bring us back to prominence. So, I mean if there’s anybody that can do it, it’s him."

DeLuca’s friend says he and others thought McNamara would be the choice.

“I had a lot of people talk to me about like, ‘I think you’re going to get lucky, I think Gerry’s coming back to coach for Syracuse,’” said Ben Toslowski. “And look what happened, it’s our freshmen year, he’s back! I think it’s gonna be awesome!”

Both Toslowski and DeLuca say G-Mac’s presence will also lead to Scranton residents and Central New Yorkers returning to pack the dome for games like when he played on the team.
