Saturday marks a critical day for voters wanting to cast ballots in the upcoming mid-term elections. “Golden Day” as it’s been dubbed by elections commissioners is the first day of early voting, and the final day to register to vote and request a mail ballot. Onondaga County voters can cast ballots at any of ten locations from 9 to 5. Early voting sites, registration, and mail ballots are all found online. The board of elections is urging voters to return mail ballots sooner than later due to delivery delays.

It's a full ballot this year due to a new state law moving most local elections to even years. That means county legislature and town races are up for grabs for a second consecutive year, along with the typical even-year races for Congress and state legislature. Then there's the quadrennial races for sheriff, governor, state comptroller, and state attorney general.

Voters have more than just candidates to choose. Two propositions on the back of the ballot ask voters if they prefer either a 12-year limit for the offices of county executive and comptroller or a 16-year limit. Voters can also vote no on both if they prefer no term limits. In the end, the proposition with a simple majority takes effect starting after the 2030 election.
